Beautiful French Bedlinen With Stunning Style - Yves Delorme

I've always loved bedding from Yves Delorme but I was amazed to find that the history dates back to 1845 when  a certain Ernestine Fremaux and her husband formed a linen weaving business in Lille, France. Following a fire in 1867 Paul Fremaux, a nephew joined the company and helped to rebuild it and a second company for spinning cotton yarn was added. World War I came and most of the towns in Northern France were occupied with some of the mills stripped of their machinery. Luckily the Fremaux company was able to move some of their equipment to a nearby town where they began to weave Jacquard fabrics for furniture and ticking for mattresses.

After the war, Paul's son René Fremaux joined the company. With the use of salvaged equipment and new looms purchased, they worked up to sixteen hours a day producing Jacquard fabrics, yarns, sheeting, and clothing materials in pure linen or cotton. World War II came and most of their assets were destroyed yet again. Somehow after this war was over they managed to rebuild and modernise the company updating with automatic looms. Production was greatly increased. During this time Francis Fremaux succeeded his father René.

In the early 1980s Francis' son Dominique decided to concentrate on the retail market by producing linen for the home. This eventually led to establishing subsidiaries in the United States in 1983, the United Kingdom in 1989 and China in 1995. During this time Dominique met the then well known designer Yves Delorme who specialised in bath products. They got together and expanded the range to include towelling and in 1992 began opening shops under the brand name Yves Delorme.
